Trentham Rifle Club at Seddon Range - NZ's Premier Shooting Facility

Great to see you’re interested in Trentham Rifle Club – we’re excited to welcome you to the range! Whether you’re trying shooting for the first time, getting back into it, or just looking for a fun new activity, we’ve got you covered. Trentham Rifle Club is open to everyone – You don’t need to have any experience to get started.
Our season runs September to May, with club days every Saturday at the Seddon Rifle Range, Upper Hutt. We shoot on a controlled range at distances from 300 to 1000 yards – starting closer for beginners, and stepping up as you gain confidence.
We offer:
Intro lessons and trial shoots to help you learn the basics
Safety training so you feel confident and comfortable
Reloading tutorials for those interested in making their own ammunition
Club days where we practise, learn, and enjoy the sport together
Competitions for those who enjoy a challenge

The Seddon Rifle Range has a proud history of safety, and we take it seriously.
Please familiarise yourself with the Range Safety Briefing
You must complete the Online Range Safety Course before attending - this is basic, no performance anxiety here just common sense.
A safety briefing will also be given on the range.
If you’re new, our Intro Programme is the best way to start
6 club shooting sessions with coaching & support
Cost: $45 + $10 range fee per session
Gear hire (rifle, rests, ear protection): $5/day
Ammo: $2.50 per round (organised by us)
Want just a one-off “have a go” session? That’s only $20 plus ammo and hire fees if needed.

Student / U25 / First Year – $165
Associate – $120
Affiliate – $55
Social – $15
Download the Visitor/Membership Form, fill it in and email it to us. Use it to select and pay the fee for the option you select.
The when and what style of shooting available to you through our club:
We shoot in a variety of styles
Target Rifle (TR): Classic prone shooting with iron sights
F-Class: Modern precision with scopes and rests
Sporter Hunter: Perfect if you’ve got a hunting rifle and want to sharpen skills

General advice on what you can and can't bring. If in doubt contact us. Dress approprite to the weather - this is an outdoor sport in Wellington :)
Outdoor clothing & closed shoes
Sunscreen and a hat
Your rifle/gear if you have it (otherwise we’ll provide it. See Try Shooting section for fees)
No muzzle brakes (suppressors are fine)
If bringing your own rifle/ammo: a known zero is helpful (we can assist if not)
Firearms license (advise us if you don’t have one)
Completed Visitor’s/Membership form
A good attitude and some curiosity – we’ll guide you through the rest!
Note: Range ammunition energy limit is 4500 Joules – use this energy calculator if unsure.
